Show Parowan to conduct Art and Crafts Bicentennial fete PAROWAN - K om it's earliest beginnings Utah has been a I center of culture and its ; residents have shown a keen interest in the arts. Early settlers in Parowan - were no exception to this rule. The first dramatic production was presented only a few short months after Parowan was settled. Many skills in woodcarving ; weaving and painting came with the choice group of pionceers . who settled here. Parowan is still filled with people who create beautiful art everyday. This Bicentennial year offers each person an op portunity to display an example of the many beautiful and also useful articles. Each home will be asked to display some of their arts. Displays will include handiwork han-diwork home arts of baking and canning, leather work, carving, .painting, collections, quilting and wood working. These items need not be made recently. Many beautiful items made by the pioneers are expected ex-pected to be entered. This festival of arts will feature the a 1 crafts of yesterday and today and everyone will be asked to display their most interesting j arts created recently or many a years ago. j Mr. and Mrs. Jean Hendrickson Hen-drickson are the chairmen for this Bicentennial presentation, and they wish to encourage everyone in Parowan, Paragonah and Summit to be making plans to enter items in the festival and to attend the festivities. The following chairman have been appointed to oversee the various art departments. Oils, Mrs. Nell Bentley. Other Art Mediums - Larry Hatch Quilts - Barbara Burt Embroidery, Burtrude Mitchell Mit-chell Crochet and knitting, Mae Angel Leather, Chester Benson Floral arrangements, Beulah Jones Ceramics, Karen LeFevre, Sewing, Elaine Adams Photography, Nellie Adams Home arts, Vivian Mitchell Weaving, Mrs. Arthur Robinson, Beads, Mignon Hatch Whittling, Cleo Bess Collections Bill Rollins Inventions, Hal Orton Period furniture, Elizabeth Neilson 1 Heritage Arts, Zella Mathesoh Heritage Arts, Zella Ingerham Elementary Art, Floyd Matheson. . , .. - ., ... Albert Or,ton will show slides and movies during the festival each evening. March 11 12 and 13th are the dates set for this Bicentennial event. It will be held in the basement of the beautiful new Iron County Court House in Parowan. Interested persons are asked to please call the chairman of the department if they are interested in-terested in entering and report the things they wish to display. Mr. and Mrs. Hendrickson wish to extend an invitation to everyone in the area to enter this exciting festival. Please don't wait to be called. You call and enter your familie's arts and crafts. This is planned as a birthday present to our nation. A spectacular spec-tacular display of Parowan Paragonah and Summit Arts. |
