Show Chamber of Commerce Many things to many people... The Chamber of Commerce is many things to many people, but few people realize the full extent of the Chamber activities and their involvement for a better community in which to live. Officers of the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce are interested in-terested in making the community com-munity aware of the total concept con-cept of the Chamber such as the work being done regarding the legislative progress, industrial development, tourism, safety education, recreation, promotion, etc. Garth Jones, executive secretary points out that the Chamber is a non-profit organization supported by membership dues from i businesses and individuals. Most businesses of the community ' hold membership as do some 35 individuals. An invitation has been extended ex-tended by officers to investigate the program and join in a good investment in Cedar City's future. During the next few weeks, a series of articles will appear in the Iron County Record, detailing the various aspects of the Chamber work. Initiate Series To begin the series a report of the Chamber activities involving visitors and potential residents compiled through the past year has been prepared. Our chamber offices have been in the new building at 286 North Main for one year and the number of visitors has more than doubled. 1974 walk-iri visitors 2102 1975 walk-in visitors 5044. With adequate signing for the 1976 tourist season, we think that the number can be doubled again. These walk-in people most often want to know what there is to see and do in the area We have prepared an annimated slide presentation of the highlights of our area and also have a good supply of Cedar City, Iron County, Color Country and State Maps and pamphlets. 'Many of the people are so impressed im-pressed with the attitude of Southern Utah people and the beauty of our area' that they return and ask about real estate and housing, general economic information, etc. Last year, we had over 400 inquiries from potential residents. The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce serves as the mailing headquarters for Cedar City information; Iron County information; in-formation; and Color Country information. In this past year, we have answered 5715 requests for information about Cedar City and Iron County. We have also sent out over 5000 Cedar City, Iron County, and Color Country maps to auto clubs. We have helped sponsor travel agents into our area for a first hand view of the area. Also the Chamber of Commerce sponsored a news media tour of the area which resulted in several complimentary com-plimentary articles in the news media. Representatives from the city and county attend three travel shows a year in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. At these shows, several thousand area brochures are distributed. Our new Chamber of Commerce Com-merce Building allows us to function as a complete information in-formation center. Promotion of the fine people and businesses in Cedar City and the highlights of our area will be a big part of Chamber of Commerce activities in 1976. |
