Show General Fishing Improves in Southern Utah As heavy runoffs diminish fishing in the southern Utah area is generally improving as it moves into the third week of the general season, . a report of the Utah Fish and !Game, southern Regional office, indicates. Following is a rundown of l fishing conditions on the ma-J ma-J )or areas of the southern Utah area as compiled by the department: de-partment: ' Fanguitch Lake: Good. Rainbow Rain-bow trout 11-15 inches, trolling troll-ing with flatfish; catfipoon? ind other .small lures are best. Ba't fishinf? good; nigh' t -rawiers, fls'i eg, cheese ' marphmallows are all good 'lalt. Fly fishing good in fir evening. Mammoth' Crsa':: Good; fish running 912 inches. Pine Lake: Good, both from shore and boat. Rainbow and t brook trout averaging 9-15 I inches. Boulder Mountain Lakes: E Fair to good. Storms have j made access difficult. Yankee Meadow Reservoir: Success slow for bait fishermen fisher-men on shore. Slightly better trolling. As water warms and water recedes, bait fishing should improve. Fish averaging averag-ing 9-10 inches; one 19 inch rainbow trout caught. Newcastle Reservoir: Slow for bait fishermen from shore; cheese and corn best bait. Good from boats; 10 inch average av-erage length fish being taken. Lake Powell: Reservoir still rising about one foot per day. Bass fishing poor, crappie fishing fair to good, trout fishing next to dam good Weather in area excellent--warm days and cool nights, moderate afternoon winds. Navajo Lake: Should now pick up; 20,000 fish planted recently needs fishing pressure. pres-sure. Johnson Reservoir: Fair bait fishing. Fish Lake: Good from both shore and boat; bait (cheese) best. Fish averaging 12 inches, Mackinaw caught one 11 pounds, one 12 pounds, onp 8 12 pound brown; a few Ko-kanee Ko-kanee are being caught with a spinner about 15 feet below surface. Kolob Reservoir: Fishing fair; no large fish caught; brook trout still dominate catch. Small brook and rainbow rain-bow trout starting to bite -6-8 inches. Road good from Virgin to Reservoir; road now open from Cedar City, a few bad spots. Lower Enterprise Reservoir: Good, shore fishing with cheese and trolling with lure-both lure-both take good catches of rainbow trout up to 14 inches; occasional 3 pounder caught. |
