Show Elks Maintain Record in National League TEAM STANDINGS Won Lost Pet. Elks 6 0 1.000 Arctic Circle .... 3 2 .600 Lions 3 , 3 .500 Jaycees 2 4 .333 Jones Motor .... 0 5 .000 Big game of the week was the 10 to 9 upset victory of Lions over Arctic Circle which had the effect of putting the Elks team two full games out in front in the National Little League baseball race. Little Tommy Torres turned the trick for Lions as he was on the mound for the entire game. The victory came in spite of a three run homer by Nolan Roberts, who is leading lead-ing the league in that department. depart-ment. Lions, however, picked up four doubles in the contest con-test to stay out in front. Elks meanwhile picked up two victories to remain undefeated. un-defeated. One of those victories vic-tories was a 24 to 4 win over the Lions with Kevin Cox taking tak-ing the mound victory in the one-sided affair. Elks also took a victory from Jaycees 6 to 2 in a low hitting affair. Elks had only three hits and Jaycees were held to just two hits. Kim Lamoreaux was the winning pitcher and Mike Hair suffered suf-fered the loss. Both chuckers went the distance. Arctic Circle stayed in second sec-ond place with a lopsided win earlier in the week over Jones Motor. They poured it on 28 to 6, taking the lead In the first innings and never being threatened for the lead. Nolan Roberts picked up two home runs in the game, making mak-ing a total of three for him for the week. Danny Humphrey Hum-phrey also homered for Arctic Arc-tic Circle to help in the victory vic-tory cause. Lions picked up their second sec-ond victory of the week when they defeated Jaycees 11 to 4. The win moved the Lions into in the standings. Utah Parks had their troubles troub-les earlier in the week when they bowed to Utah Construction Construc-tion 19 to 8. UC took the lead in the first inning and led all the way. Lane Isom and Jeff Carr handled the I mound duties for the winning UC crew. Parks sent Savage, Anderson, and Morris to the plate to try to stem the tide. Parks snapped back Tuesday Tues-day evening with a convincing convinc-ing 12 to 3 victory over Southern South-ern Utah Mortuary. Parks had eight hits including four doubles, but could not push in the necessary runs. Both teams sent three hurlers to the plate over the seven innings inn-ings of play. ' In other action, State Bank outlasted Southern Utah Mortuary Mor-tuary in a 12 to 10 battle. The lead see-sawed back and forth, but State Bank's six doubles proved to be the difference dif-ference in the contest. Beten-son, Beten-son, Leavitt, and Spevak hurled hurl-ed for State Bank with Leavitt Lea-vitt picking up the victory. Haight suffered the loss for the Mortuary crew. lilllU Jitx-w ... v. Mike Rice homered and Robert Sherratt and Tommy Torres shared the mound duties. Jaycees Jay-cees pushed in all four of their runs In the third frame, but were shut out for five innings in the contest. In other action, Jaycees barely edged out Jones Motor Tuesday evening in a 3 to 2 battle. Jaycees held the lead throughout, holding Jones Motor Mo-tor hitless and scoreless through five innings of play. Jones pushed in two runs in the sixth to threaten the Jaycees. Jay-cees. Chet Peterson and Kevin Averett were on the mound for Jaycees and Dennis Bowler Bow-ler and Jim Whitney shared duty for Jones Motor. |
