Show National Guardsmen To End Two Week Encampment The muddiest, wettest summer sum-mer camp in the memory of veteran Utah National Guardsmen Guards-men ends this weekend after two weeks of training. Members of the 2d Battalion, 22nd Artillery of the Utah National Na-tional Guard, located in southern south-ern Utah have been a part of the encampment and this past week have been on special spec-ial assignment at the Dug-way Dug-way Proving Grounds where they have undergone special Sixth Army testing. The warm hearths of home will be a welcome sight for the guardsmen who shivered in the chill drizzles and even snow that continuously cascaded cas-caded down during the first week. Guardsmen were forced to "muddle" through the first week when drenching rains inundated the camp and firing ranges for six straight days. Despite the mud which plagued the training sessions, boots and brass shined for the VIP's who toured Camp Williams over the weekend. Gov. Calvin L. Rampton, commander-in-chief of the Utah Guard, inspected the troops training at Camp Williams Saturday. Members of the Southern Utah unit, with installations in Cedar City, St. George, Beaver, Fillmore, and Richfield, Rich-field, will return to their respective res-pective communities Saturday and wind up the training session ses-sion Sunday as armories are buttoned down for the summer sum-mer months. |
