Show VFW Auxiliary Group Honors Utah Department Leader Mrs. Betty Beach.Utah Department Depart-ment President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, was the honered guest at a dinner meeting held at the China Garden Gard-en Cafe in Cedar City Thursday evening. Mrs. Beach, from Kearns, praised prais-ed the Cedar City Auxiliary on their accomplishments and awarded the unit with a Citation of Merit from the United States VFW for having 100 percent membership and the most new members in the state. A trophy goes with the citation and will be presented to the Cedar City Auxiliary by District President Mrs. Helen Marie Kurl of St. George at a later date. Mrs. Beach pointed out that if the Cedar City unit can earn the trophy for two more years it will become their permanent possession. The unit was also complimented compli-mented for their participation in the Voice of Democracy radio script writing program in which David Farnsworth of Cedar City was a winner. The VFW Auxiliary was happy to report that contributions had been sent each year to the following: follow-ing: The Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City; the Home for War Orphans sponsored by the U. S. VFW and Auxiliary in Eaton Rapids, Mich, and to the VFW Auxiliary Cancer Fund. Mrs. Beach announced that the Department convention this year would be held June 17, 18 and 19 in Price and encouraged members mem-bers of the Cedar City unit to attend. She also indicated that a six-state VFW convention will be held in Las Vegas, Nev. in the near future. It was noted that it is the 20th anniversary for the local auxiliary auxil-iary to Juniper Post 3510 which was reorganized in 1946. A special guest at the meeting was Miss Deann Houtz whose mother is past department president. presi-dent. She is attending the College of Southern Utah and is very interested in the work of the VFW Auxiliary. |
