Show Ninth Ward Junior M-Men Make Good Tournament Showing The Cedar Ninth Ward Junior M-Men basketbal team, regional entry in tne Junior M-Men All-Church All-Church tournament in Salt Lake City last week advanced to the third round of play before being eliminated. After losing to Midvale in the opening round in a close battle throughout, the Cedar City crew came back in the second round of play to defeat Ogden by a score of 56 to 36. In that contest the Ninth Ward spurted to an easy 29 to 15 halftime lead and continued the pace in the second half for the final victory. Lennie Olafson led the scoring for Cedar Ce-dar with 14 points, followed by 12 by Dan Webster and 10 by Gail Cripps. Advancing to the third round of play the Cedar Ninth took an early lead on the Mill Creek team to spurt to a 16 to 15 first quarter lead. In the second period the Mill Creek crew took over on the boards and moved out in front to lead 31 to 22 at halftime, and 49 to 30 at the end of the third period. per-iod. Final score was 62 to 49, to eliminate Cedar from the contest. Olafson tanked 16 points and Cripps hit for 12 in the contest as they swapped scoring efforts. Cripps compiled 10 of his point output in the first half of play while Olafson took over the scoring scor-ing in the second half. While in attendance at the All-Church All-Church event members of the team members were entertained by a ward in Salt Lake City. Two young ladies from the ward were assigned as sponsors and they headed up a program in the ward, a dance and other activities, while in the capital city. |
