Show .tate Highway Maps j Reflect I Rich Utah History People interested In Utah history his-tory will find the Utah State highway map a rich source of Information. The map contains many entertaining names, historical his-torical features, Biblican place names, names and locations from the Book of Mormon. Many communities com-munities were named after Indian In-dian tribes, French and Spanish explorers, Mormon settlers and presidents of the United States. According to Chris S. Metos, information director, Utah State Department of Highways, the J965 State Highway map is now under production, with 400,000 copies to be printed for free distribution dis-tribution this year. Always In short supply, a limited number of the lU0- State Highway maps are still available. The new map will reflect such faaclnating Indian names as Hia-1 watha, Ibapah, Indianola and To-querville. Spanish Span-ish and French expl jivrs are credited cre-dited for the names of Ophir, Montezuma Creek, the Virgin River, Ri-ver, Ogden, Provo, Duchesne, Al-ta, Al-ta, Spanish Fork and Escalantf. The state's immigrants and settlers were honored in the community com-munity names of Leeds, Wales, vernon, Holladay and the famous explorer, Fremont. The influence of the mining industry Is shown in the names of Bonanza, Tintic and Dividend. There is a Helper and a Tucker. Tuck-er. In the field of geometry, there is a Circleville, an Angle, a Round Valley, but not a Square. There is a Naples but not a Rome. Equestrians will be pleased to see a rimo, a Little Pinto, but there is no Pony. Relighting na ture lovers will be the place names of Laik, Sego, Thistle and Blrdseye. Fishermen can takej pride in noting the loi-ation of Trout Creek in western Utah, j And there are the communities : of Eden, Paradise, Freedom and I Liberty. Reflectng pride in their local industries are I'ickleville and Sugarvile. There is a Rains, Hailstone and a Sunset. There is a College and also a Columbia. Dirty Devil is a river in southeastern south-eastern Utah and Skull Valley is to be found in Tooele County. Mexican Hat is the site of an old ferry crossing.
