Show THE "LITTLE MAN" STILL COUNTS The "little man" still counts in this great country of ours. More than half of the corporations in this country are small businesses with assets of less than $100,000 each. In the last census more than three million separate business busi-ness establishments reported under the Social Security Act Of these onlv 54,000 employed 100 or more persons each. These small firms provided more than one-fourth vof the total employment in commerce and industry. We too often think of only big companies as the employers em-ployers of this country, where actually American business is made up of millions of employers, who are millions ot risk-takers. They are the people who take their savings and start a business venture. People who operate on a small margin of profit, reinvesting this small profit In1 their business so that it can grow and provide a source of living income for the owner and his employees if there be any. The extent to which these millions of small rhk-tak-ers start new ventures and create new lobs depends on their estimate of the chances of making and keeping a profit pro-fit compared with the risk of losing their whole capital It is important that the politicians in "wasntngum ketrp tu.s fact in mind, that the little man is still the backbone of this great country. |
