Show AN OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYONE As the now .war yets under way, people of Cedar City, students, faculty and administrators at the College of Southern Utah, the Board of Trusties of Utah State University Uni-versity and the College of Southern Utah, are "thinking big" in their plans and ei forts to expand the local institution insti-tution into a full four-year liberal arts college. The expansion, which seems to have an excellent chance to become a reality as the result of approval by the Coordinating Council of Higher Education, and a state-wide situation that creates a need for tremendous expansion ex-pansion in educational facilities, is something that local people and school administrators have dreamed of for many years, and the southern end of the state has been in need of for many years. Now, with the opportunity presenting itself, everyone should do everything possible to support the proposal and to help make the dream come true. Every individual can and should help in some way, and no matter how small the help may be, it will all add up to a united effort of i great importance. Many may ask, "how can I do anything to help?": There is one field of support that is very definitely need-1 ?d, and one with which anyone, no matter how limited in means or connections, can help. I If we are to have a four-year liberal arts college, the' library must be built to a minimum of 50,000 volumes, and at the present time the volume total is set at 35,000. Every few dollars that is contributed to the library development ! fund will held, but contributors should "think big" whenj planning to help this cause and make his or her contribution contribu-tion as large as possible. Some may be able and willing to make substantial contributions, and certainly there are, many people in Cedar City and the surrounding area w ho could contribute in amouts of 5100 or more, and w ith this kind of support, in addition to many smaller contributions the library can be brought to an adequate status for a four-year four-year college. This is a real opportunity for every individual to do t "his part" toward the exnansion of southern Utah's institu- tion of higher learning. It is hoped that everyone will seize the opportunity and "do" his part to reach this im-1 portant goal. J |
