Show l,127.778AcresPublic Land to Be Classified The recent U. S. Congress directed di-rected the Secretary of the Inter-1 lor to classify public lands administered ad-ministered by the Bureau of Land Management for disposition or retention under federal manage- j inent. According to District Manager Lynn G. Leishman the Cedar City District of the Bureau of Land Management includes 1,627,778 acres of public domain within Iron, Washington, Kane and Garfield Gar-field countiex Prior to the enactment of the Classification and Multiple Use Act (PL 88-607) by Congress in its last session, BLM had managed man-aged the public lands on an interim in-terim basis. The new law recognizes recog-nizes that some lands are suitable suita-ble for disposal, but others contains con-tains such values as to make them more suitable for retention and management. Multiple use la defined as management of the various surface sur-face and subsurface resources so they are utilized in the combination combina-tion that best meets the present and future needs of the American Ameri-can people while providing sufficient suf-ficient latitude for periodic adjustments ad-justments in use to conform to changing needs and conditions. To obtain comments concerning concern-ing criteria for carrying out the mandate of Congress, the Cedar City District of the Bureau of Land Management has scheduled a district advisory board meeting January 14, 1965, at 9:00 a. m., in the Park Office Building, Cedar City, Utah. |
