Show ilVING IN THE ESCALANTG VALLEY By Mrs. Jack MoyU E. V. W. CLUB The Escalante Valley Women's Club meeting was held Thursday, Thurs-day, May 16 at the home of Mrs. Gene Butler. Mrs. Fern Johnson Hunter was a guest for the evening. eve-ning. Along with other business the ladies discussed plans f r the annual Fourth of July Pot Luck supper and fireworks. After business an evening of bingo was enjoyed by the women. wo-men. Those winning chose prizes from a tray for this purpose. Door prize was won by Mrs. Ellen Clark. Mrs. Clark was co-hostess for the evening with Mrs. Butler. Refreshments were served in the form of delicious strawberry shortcake. SCOOTING Dens No, 1 and No. 2 of the Escalante Es-calante Valley Cub Scouts met with Frances Piper on Saturday, May 18 at the school house. The theme of the meeting was fire prevention and conservation of natural resources which has prevailed pre-vailed thoughout the month of May. The May Cub Scout pack leaders lead-ers meeting for planning of the Ideas Committee for the June program, was held at the home of Mrs. Mildred Tullis of New-castle. New-castle. The June theme will be the Cub Scout Archaeologist. Those attending this meeting be. sides Mrs. Tullis were Mr. and Mrs. Nelles Nielson, P.obert Burns, Bryner Wood and Frances Piper. Bryner Wood. Cene Butler, Don Applegate, Kay Jolley and Bob Reeves took the Cub Scout Den No. 3 of Newcastle for a ride In the Escalante Valley Fire Engine on Monday, May 20 In connection with their fire prevention theme. WILDLIFE FISHERMEN A largo crowd of younar wildlife wild-life members enjoyed a fishing treat from the Gordon Moyle pond at Beryl Junction early on Wednesday morning. The wild-life wild-life fishermen are nov fishing from the Ray Hunt pond. Not more than five fish In one day nor over 10 per week Is the allowance al-lowance to the club members. OIL FOR "E" Mike Fllnspach and Jack Moyle, Jr. obtained oil and filters from the nearby Iron mines for the purpose of lighting the "E" for the big E-Day event at the Enterprise High School on Friday, Fri-day, May 17. The filters In spite of getting soaked with rain during dur-ing the day burned for hours maing it possible to see the "E" from far out In the valley. LITTLE CUP CAKES Reported by Lualla Amnion Our 4-H Club was organized on May 20 with four members: Diane Wood, president; Joan Del-vecchlo, Del-vecchlo, vice president;; Carol Hunt, secretary and Luella An-zalone, An-zalone, reporter. The name of our club Is the 'Little Cup Cakes.' We will meet on Tuesdays at the school house. Mrs. Delia Del-vecchlo Del-vecchlo is our club leader. HERE and THERE I The sister of Tony and Lennle Alberto, Lucy and her husband Joe Crovo cf San Fernando, Calif, are at the Alberto home. Mr. and Mrs. Crovo were called to the valley because of the Illness of Mrs. Alberto who Is In a critical cri-tical condition. John Biaso of San Fernanda. Calif., father of Bruno and Mrs. Teresa Benettl, an aunt of Ellsa. are at the Bruno Blast home. Mary Ann Hunt spent Saturday Satur-day home from Dixie College. Pat Lou Jones of St. George visited in the valley Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Eva Bosshardt broke a small bone in her leg just above the ankle by slipping on a pot a. to while at work. Mrs. Bosshardt is being laid ur for some time. Mrs. Rodney Hunter is at home with her parents, the Charles Bosshardts, while her husband is In Salt Lake City. Mrs. Lou Bracken was happy to receive a phone call from her son Alma, Just after landing from his shop on the West Coast. John Harsley visited with his daughter, Mrs. Neal Bracken and his son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Donald Horsley and baby. Mr. Horsley stayed at the home of his son. Mr. and Mrs. John Bosshardt and Charles Bosshardt attended the funeral services at Redmond, Utah on Monday, May 20 for C. Conrad Bosshardt, a brother of John. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Graham and twin daughters of Sandy spent a day or so in the valley at the Carl Anderson home visiting visit-ing friends and on business. Everett Mason, a brother of Mrs. Alice Schwartz and Mrs. Mary Ann Mason, the wife of another an-other brother, and two children, Ernie and Mary Joe of Quartz Hill. Calif.; also Mrs. Moore of San Bernardino, grandmother of Mrs. Mason, are visiting at the Albert Schwartz home. They expect to stay for the graduation gradua-tion of Mrs. Schwartz' daughter, Lula Belle Pittard on Thursday, May 23. Among those attending and participating In the Uvada Stake dance festival held at Enterprise on Tuesday, were Mrs. Maud Moyle, Mrs. Marilyn Holt, Mrs. Augusta Hunt, Mrs. Nellie Moyle and daughter Margie; Mrs. Jen-ene Jen-ene Holt and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Fife. Mr. Fife- was the announcer announc-er and reader for the dance events. ' |
