Show Utah State Jaycees Open 23rd Convention; Full Agenda Stated Conventioneers from throughout the state began to file into Cedar City today, Thursday, for the 23rd Annual Convention Con-vention of t ho Utah Junior Chamber of Commeice. Convention Conven-tion will run through Sunday, May 18. Executive committee meetings will open the convention conven-tion beginning at 4:(K) p. m. today, with the first general session slated for 7:.'0 p. m. on the lawns at Hotel El Escalante Es-calante at t he annual "Got Acquainted Supper and Dance." r - L-. Candidate General sessions of the convention conven-tion will open Friday at 9:00 a m. at which time Mayor Arnold I Anderson will welcome the some 750 Jaycees and their partners' expected at the event. Keynote speaker at this session ses-sion will be Rernie Diamond, secretary-manager of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce. Presiding over the convention activities will be Len Allen of Ogden, Utah State Jaycee president. Oliver D. LeFevre, past president presi-dent of the Cedar City Jaycees and curently serving as a national na-tional director from the State of Utah, will preside over the Saturday Sa-turday evening session of the convention. Cedar City club under the direction di-rection of Richard T. Rrown as president will host the three-day activity and A. L. Thompson, past local president and state vice president, Is serving as convention conven-tion chairman. A highlight of the convention will be the election of state officers of-ficers Including a president, national na-tional lirector, state vice presidents presi-dents and a convention site for the 1959 convention. James Sandberg of the Cedar City club will be vicing for the position of state vice president at the convention. Sandberg has been active in the Cedar City Jaycees for a number of years and has served on the organization's organiza-tion's board of directors for several sev-eral terms. His candidacy Is being sponsored by the Cedar City club. Work of organizing the convention con-vention falls on all of the club membership to make it a success, suc-cess, it was pointed out by Thompson, and a number of committees com-mittees have been organized and functioning to make this one of the outstanding events in the 23 year history of the convention. Serving as sub-chairmen on various phases of the convention have been Eldon Schmutz. Sandberg, Sand-berg, Klien Rollo, Rob Llnford, Dick Winterrose, Keith Cripps, Ken Huntington, Jay Shakespeare and Dallas Imlay. The entire membership of the Cedar City club has been working work-ing on the committees headed by those named above. A full agenda of activities has also been planned for the auxiliary aux-iliary members who will be in attendance during the convention. A luncheon and fashion show is being planned with Sonoma's of Cedar City to present the fashion event for the visiting ladies. Narrator for the event will be Eugene Woolf. Presidents, presi-dent presi-dent elects and Immediate past presidents of auxiliaries from throughout the state will also attend at-tend a breakfast at Hotel El Escalante Es-calante Sunday morning. |
