Show Fish and Game Dept. Airs Gun Law For Youth Training "Any person under the age of' 14 years who carries or has in his possession any pistol, un. target or other firearm unless he is accompanied by a partnt. or guardian, shall be deemed delinquent child." This secitlon of the laws of Utah was cited again today by the department of fish and game as the annual heavy increase of persons afield begins with the warm days of spring. Another section of the law reads, "Any person who sells, gives away, or disposes of. or offers of-fers to sell, give away or dispose of. any pistol, gun. target gun or i other firearm to any person un- ' der the age of 14 years is guilty of a misdemeanor." Both laws were passed by the 1953 legislature in the Interest of providing a training period for Juveniles under adult supervision and with the goal of reducing gun accidents, deaths and property prop-erty damage. Both laws place the legal responsibility re-sponsibility upon the parent or guardian for the supervision of such juveniles whenever using or in the possession of a gun. Records show that a major portion of the gun accidents and problems do not occur during the game hunting seasons. They also show that a large percent of nil gun accidents, deaths, and vandalism, van-dalism, result from gun use by Juveniles. The "training period" under the law continues through the ages of 14 and 15.
