Show Snow Measurements Continue Far Below 1952 Records Snow and water measurements made this week on the Dixie National forest area of Cedar Mountain are only about half what it was at tnis time last year. Surveys were made on four watershed . areas by Grant Wil liams of the Forest Service, and Clyde Lowe of the Soil Conservation Conser-vation Service Monday and Tuesday. Tues-day. At Harris flat the snow depth was 21.7 inches as compared to 45.7 inches last year, while the water content was 5.18 inches compared with. 14 inches in 1952. The measurements showed 30.9 inches of snow with 7.54 inches of water at Duck Creek. Last year there was 66.3 inches of snow with 22.1 inches of water at this point. At Panguitch lake there is 14.24 inches of snow with 3.37 inches of water content, con-tent, as compared to 28.8 Inches of snow and 8.6 inches of water last year. The measurements reveal that the snow depth is not only under that of last year but the water content per inch is also considerably consid-erably lower. The men reported that there was only a trace of snow at the Long Valley junction, whereas there was 32.7 inches of snow with 11 inches of water at the same time last year. Measurements made by Tom Phillips and France Miller yesterday, yes-terday, shows that the snow fall on the Escalante summit has been more nearly normal. There is 28.2 inches of snow and 6.92 inches of water this year, as compared with 31.7 and 9.3 inches inch-es last year. |
