Show Marauding Bears Trapped by Wallace Adams Wallace Adams, government trapper of many years experience, was successful in trapping and killing two large bear in Cedar canyon this past week, and according ac-cording to latest reports is hoping hop-ing to take another in the near future. They were trapj ed on Websters flat, just 4 miles south of Wood's ranch in Cedar canyon. The story came as quite a surprise ti residents of thiy area, who for many years had considered Cedar Ce-dar canyon practically exempt from bear. Earlier this summer bear had been spotted in the canyon by I citizens, but to trap two bears in two days was an unprecedented unprecedent-ed happening anywhere in this part of the country. According to Mr. Adams there is still more of the animals en Cedar mountain moun-tain and he is determined to tiap more. I he first bear was trapped early Saturday morning and a number of Cedar City residents traveled into the canyon to see the animal before Mr. Adams killed it. Afterwards, displayed on the lawn of the Adams residence resi-dence in Cedar City, it attracted a great number of curious citizens. cit-izens. Sunday morning Mr. Adams made another trip to Cedar mountain to return with a bear again, attracting another host of curious people. Captured in almost al-most identically the same location loca-tion the second bear differed only In size and color. The second se-cond one w'as brown and smaller than the first one which was black. Throughout the entire summer repeated reports of heavy loss of sneep by the marauding bears have been brought to town, with the animals striking in widely separate areas. As the losses continued con-tinued hunters and trappers have I Increased their efforts to capture the animals but without success until Adams' unusual take over the week end. Mr. Adams' success suc-cess has truly been a thorn extracted ex-tracted from the sides of the sheepmen, although indications are that at least one more bear Is wandering in the area. |
