Show Laxity in Law Enforcement The best way to gain respect for law is to consitently enforce any law placed on the statute books, or else remove re-move that law. The present city council should recognize that fact and make sure that the regulations to be adopted are desirable and enforceable before passing an ordinance. A recent case indicates either that the council did not give sufficient consideration before unanimously approving an ordinance: or else have been very negligent in seeing to it that the ordinance is enforced since its passage. We refer to the ordinance that provides for parallel parking on Main street between Center and 200 South streets. The ordinance was passed, published and city officials publicly announced that it would be enforced as a means of eliminating a traffic hazard on the street. Yet, to our knowledge, the ordinance has never been enforced, and any time you want to drive onto the street you will find practically prac-tically all cars parked at an angle, the same as on any other street. We have observed on a number of occasions public officials' cars parked in violation of the ordinance. We do not attempt to argue whether or not parallel parking on the street in desirable or feasible. What we do claim is that either the council acted hastily or illadvisedly in passing the ordinance, or they should make sure that its regulations are enforced. We can't understand what convinced the city officials so quickly that the ordinance should not be enforced, but if they do have good and sufficient reasons for not enforcing enforc-ing the ordinance, they should repeal it immediately.
