Show Charles Slaughter, 84 Succumbs After Brief Illness FuneraJ services were conducted conduct-ed in the Cedar Third Ward chapel cha-pel Monday afternoon, Aug. 8, for Charles Slaughter, 84, who died Saturday following a short illness. The services were conducted by A. E. Whatcott, with Ancil 3. Adams, Parowan and Samuel F. Leigh as speakers. Invocation was by C. Wililam Macfarlane, benediction by I. E. Riddle, and the dedicatory prayer at the Cedar Ce-dar City cemetery where burial was made, by William R. Pajmer. The musical program included a vocal duet, "One Fleeting Hour," by Mamie Eck and Lois McConnell; a vocal duet, "Whispering "Whis-pering Hope," by Wm. Macfarlane Macfar-lane and Ray Cosslett, after which the four singers . combined com-bined for a quartet number, "That Beautiful Land." Beth Leigh was accompanist, and Miss Ferrol Dene Whatcott was at the organ for prelude and postlude music. Mr. Slaughter was born at North Mountain, West Virginia, a son of Alonzo and Elida E. Honner Slaughter, and came to Utah more than 30 years ago. He will be remembered in Cedar City as a1 former custodian at the College of Southern Utah, a position he held for many years before age forced his retirement. |
