Show Board oi Education To Make Study Of Grass Root Needs In Education The Iron County Board of Education Ed-ucation has laid plans for a "grass roots" conference on education ed-ucation to bring about a cooperative coop-erative study of education needs between educators and laymen of school areas. A conference for Region Six, which includes Millard, Mil-lard, Beaver, Iron, Washington, and Kane Counties, will be included in-cluded in the Cedar City conference, confer-ence, although It Is not normally in Region Six. Three members of the Iron County Boafd of Education, Leo Larsen, Herman E. Bayles and Samuel Abbott, attended a state prinferpnrf In T.alfA Pitv nn July 29th. at which plans were laid for the regional conferences throughout the state. Mr. Abbott and Mr. Bayles reported at the school board meeting Monday, pointing out that a request had been made that such conferences be held throughout the state, to bring the findings of the people on these problems to a state conference con-ference In October, which In turn wilj be taken to a national conference con-ference In Washington, D. C. Committees Named As a means of getting a cross-section cross-section of opinion, six committees' of three members each have been appointed, each to study a particular part-icular phase of educational problems. pro-blems. Each committee is composed com-posed of one professional educator ed-ucator and two laymen. The local committees are as follows: Curriculum and Instruction "What Should Our Schools Accomplish?"; Ac-complish?"; Dr. John Beal, Smoot Seamon, and Mary McMillan. Organization "In What Way Can We Organize Our Schools More Efficiently and Economically?"; Economical-ly?"; Albert Albertson, Donald Mathews, and Helen Stones. Buildings "What Are Our Building Build-ing Needs?"; Ellen Bulloch, Clarence Clar-ence Miller, and Max S. Dalley. Teachers and Other Personnel "How Can We Get Enough Teachers Tea-chers and Keep Them?; Richard Jones, Mrs. E. J. King, and Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite. Finance "How Can We Finance Finan-ce Our Schools, Building and Operation?"; W. Clair Rowley, Graham MacDonald, and Oscar J. Hulet. Interest "How Can We Obtain Continuing Interest in Education?"; Educa-tion?"; Morgan Rollo, Mrs. Reed W. Farnsworth, and Don A. Knight. Six representatives' from the Region Six meeting will be selected se-lected to attend the State. Conference Con-ference in October, to voice the thinking of people of this area on these problems. |
