The Southern Utah Power Company Com-pany team climbed into the lead, in the Cedar City Pony League race by taking the measure of the Utah Construction Company team Monday night, in a tight pitchers battle. The Power crew turned in a 4 to 2 victory over the miners, with Eric Gardner allowing allow-ing only 3 hits to edge Gary Anderson An-derson in the mound duel. Gary, losing the verdict, allowed only four hits to his opponents. Each team scored a run in the second inning, after which the Construction went runless until the final inning when one more run was scored. In the meantime the Power team had added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth innings to gain the victory. In the only other game of the week the Utah Parks team trounced Ardcn Dairy by a 16 to 3 margin. The Parks team won the game in the first inning by crossing home plate eight times. The victors irldpfl twn more rune; in the second and exploded for six more in the sixth. The best that Arden could do was one run in each of the first, second and sixth innings. The second run scored was a home run by Dick Butler. Jimmy Quinn went the rout on the mound for the winning team, while Benny Benson chucked most of the game for the .losers. However, Benson was relieved for the last two put out, Dick Butler But-ler going to he mound first and David Randall finishing up the inning. |
