Show HAPPENINGS IN PARAG0NAH By Nora Lund Impressive Seminary graduation gradua-tion exercises were conducted in Parowan Sunday evening. Para-gonah Para-gonah students who received diplomas di-plomas were Delores Thornton, Rose Ann Barton, Allen Dailey, Farrel Robb, and James Talbot. Miss Thornton gave a fine talk as a part of the program and both young ladies sang in the girls' chorus. Mr. and Mrs. Don Barton have bought and are moving into the family home of his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John S. Barton. Bar-ton. La Grande Robb spent a few days bere with his family from his employment in Nevada. Miss Emma Nielson and Miss Lola Lund of Cedar City spent Sunday afternoon in town visiting visit-ing relatives and friends. The Stake MIA Dance and Music Festival held in Parowan Saturday evening was highly successful, very colorful and entertaining. en-tertaining. Young people from every ward in the stake participated partici-pated in at least one dance. Stake directors Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nor-man Grimshaw of Enoch, assisted assist-ed by Miss Marilyn Richardson, conducted the dancing, with D. Amasa Stones of Paragonah and Itha Mortensen, Parowan directing direct-ing the stake chorus and quartet number. Our young people were well represented and did a fine job in their particular renditions. Mrs. Hannah Robinson returned return-ed home Friday evening from Salt Lake City where she had been for a medical check up. Clifford Robb came home from Logan for the week end. Thursday Thurs-day night he was joined by Terry Hansen, Conrad Carlson, Dennis Thurman and a friend, all from Idaho Falls, Idaho, who are students stu-dents of the U S A C. They spent Friday and Saturday taking in the sights at Zryce and Zion Canyons, Can-yons, then on to Las Vegas and Boulder Dam in Nevada. They returned re-turned to Logan Sunday. Mrs. Pauline Topham, and son Kenneth, and Heber Lund attended attend-ed the 49ers celebration in Pan-guitch Pan-guitch on Friday. They were giv-en giv-en a special invitation to appear on the program which took place in the social hall immediately following the parade, sponsored hv the Wildlife Federation. Mrs. Topham gave a comic reading and the boys played accordion numbers. Mrs. Lee Spencer of Cedar City brought her aunt, Mrs. John H. Corry, also of Cedar, and a friend, Mrs. James Wood of Salt Lake City to town on Thursday and Friday of last week to visit with friends and relatives. All three of these ladies were former residents resi-dents of our community and it was nice to have them return again to visit. Rulon Barton left Monday for Mesquite, Nev. to spend some time with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Show-alter. Show-alter. Mr. Barton is a carpenter and will assist the Showalters on their new building program. Miss Delores Thornton, a student stu-dent of the P II S was named yearbook editor for the 1955-56 school vear. The M I A Stake Board held its monthly meeting here on Sunday with members from other wards coming for the occasion. Nature certainly gave us a raw deal last Saturday. Our reporter has lived in Paragonah for 30 years but she has never witnessed wit-nessed such a dust storm so terrific ter-rific that all traffic was stopped for quite a few hours going and coming through our town. Buck-horn Buck-horn Flat to the north and the nlowed ground between here and Parowan to the south, where the dust was so intense as to make driving a dangerous hazard, was the cause of our isolation. I The time in church Sunday was taken up by members of the Aaronic Priesthood commemorating commemorat-ing the restoration of that Priesthood. Priest-hood. Talks were given by Eugene Eu-gene Robb, Kenneth Topham, Jr., James Talbot and Mrs. Herbert Topham. Miss Laura Lamoreaux played a piano solo and Duar.e Lamoreaux an accordion selection. selec-tion. Belatedly the 1954 Priesthood Individual Awards were presented present-ed by Bishop Victor Robinson to Ronald Topham, Max Robinson, Michael Williamson, Gordon Topham, Top-ham, Engene Robb, Michael Lamoreaux, Lam-oreaux, LaNell Topham, Niel Talbot, Tal-bot, Dean Robinson, Heber Lund, Ardell Talbot, Lyle Topham, Kenneth Ken-neth Topham, Duane Lamoreaux, Robin Lamoreaux, Kent Talbot, Farrel Robb, Dale Robinson, Murray Mur-ray Topham and Clifford Robb. They received a Ward Award for having 50 per cent of the boys receiving individual awards. Beautiful Aaronic Priesthood pins were presented to Clifford Robb for having five Individual awards, and Dale Robinson, Farrel Far-rel Robb and Murray Topham received re-ceived pins for earning four Individual Indi-vidual awards. Mrs. Joy Richards and Mrs. Emma Em-ma Frandsen of Panguitch were here visiting Mrs. Gwen Jones Saturday. They attended the Stake Dance Festival in Parowan Paro-wan that evening and spoke highly of the entertainment. Dale Robinson was home over the week end from Provo where he is attending school. Mr. and Mrs. H. Revere Robinson Rob-inson announce the engagement of their daughter Shirley, to Mr. H. Dee White of Summit, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert White. The marriage is planned for June 4, at the home of the bride's parents. par-ents. Miss Robinson received her schooling here, at the Parowan High School and at C S U where she is currently a student. She was vice president of the P II S student body in 1953-54, graduating that same year, and graduatinfg from Seminary in 1953. She received the coveted $350 cash award from the Standard Stand-ard Oil Co. for her outstanding 4-II Club work and high scholastic scholas-tic record. |
