Show Legion auxiliary Solicits Poppy Day Support . "Wear a Poppy Honor the Dead and Aid the Disabled." This will be the appeal of the American Legion Auxiliary to the people of Cedar City when they observe annual Poppy Day of Saturday, May 28. Everyone in the city will be asked to wear a memorial poppy in honor of the nation's war dead, and to make, a contribution to the welfare wel-fare of wars' living victims, the disabled veterans and needy children of veterans. Completion of preparation for Poppy Day was announced today to-day by Mrs. Pearl Rogers, president pres-ident of the auxiliary. The Unit's poppy committee, Mrs, Leah Bess, chairman, has been working for weeks to perfect plans and arrangements. ar-rangements. A large corps of volunteer workers has been or- ganized to offer the poppies in all parts of the city. The Popples have been made for the Auxiliary by disabled veterans of three wars. They are crepe paper replicas of the famous fam-ous Flanders Field poppy. "For the Women of the Legion Auxiliary, Poppy Day is one of the biggest days of the year the day when we honor the war dead and collect the funds which enable us to continue serving the disabled and needy children every day of the year," Mrs. Rogers said. Mayor Arnold Anderson has proclaimed Saturday, May 28, as Poppy Day and in so doing he encouraged residents to support the Auxiliary in this worthwhile cause, Mrs. Bess said. |
