Show Republican Slate Sole Claim To Council Posts The deadline for filing candidates candi-dates for the coming municipal election at which three city coun-cilmen coun-cilmen are to be elected, passed Saturday, Oct. 22, with only one ticket placed on the ballot. The Republican party earlier in the week had completed Its ticket for the election, placing in nomination three candidates for the offices, Grant Seegmlller, Sam Gentry and Jim Hcywood. The Democratic party had previously prev-iously announced that it would not name candidates for the election, elec-tion, the party leaders maintain-lng maintain-lng that a municipal election should be on a non-partisan rather rath-er than a strictly party line basis. ba-sis. However, there was some indication indi-cation that an independent ticket tick-et would be named to be placed in the ballot for the election. This did not materialize and since the deadline for filing has now passed, pass-ed, the only names to appear on . the ballot will be the three Republican Re-publican nominees. The election must be held and voters will have the opportunity to approve the Republican slate, or voice their opposition by a write-in vote, a privilege provided provid-ed voters at every election. The election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, and it is assumed as-sumed that Mr. Seegmlller, who is seeking re-election, Mr. Gentry and Mr. Heywood will qualify to serve during the coming term as city councilmen. |
