Show Construction of New Homes Continues At Unusual Rate One out of every 15 homes in southern Utah has been built since World War II ended In 1945, according to W. Arthur Jones, local lumber and bu.ld-ing bu.ld-ing materials dealer and member mem-ber of the Public Affairs committee com-mittee of the National Retail Lumber Dealers association. "Over the country as a whole, one out of every six homes has been built in the same period, a total of 8,000,000 units in a little over six year," Mr. Jones said. "Forecasters are almost unanimous una-nimous in predicting that another an-other 1,000,000 new homes will be built nationally in 1953, and there is every reason to believe that local home building also will maintain the high rate of the last five years. "Unless some new international internation-al trouble develops, building materials ma-terials of all kinds will be available avail-able in full supply and emergency emergen-cy restrictions on the use of metal products undoubtedly will be removed completely before many months have passed. "Even now, the modified construction con-struction controls which are still in force present no obstacles to the building of small and medium-sized homes. With careful planning, the amounts of critical criti-cal materials which can be used per unit are sufficient to permit construction of homes with three or four bedrooms with a free choice of basic materials. "Most building materials currently cur-rently are selling below OPS ceiling prices, and some considerably consid-erably lower." |
