Makes Fine Start In 1947-48 Basketball Campaign Coach Ray Lindqulst's Branch Agricultural college basketball squad made an impressive start on its 1947-48 campaign last week winning win-ning three of four games from the Gila Monsters of Thatcher, Arizona. Although the Coach has many "rough edges" to work off before league competition starts, the games last week Indicated thai he has an abundance of material to work with. After winning both games Wednesday Wed-nesday night, the Broncos split their two game series with the Arizona teams Thursday night, dropping the first game by a score of 43 to 33, and winning the second by a score of 58 to 57 In an exciting finish. The first game was close throughout, through-out, with the Broncos holding a slight advantage most of the way, only to have the visitors drop In three quick baskets In the last two minutes of play to win the game. In the last game, Coach Llnd-qulst Llnd-qulst started the same team that represented the school last season, and they took a commanding lead, but the visitors pulled even early In the second quarter and the lead changed frequently throughout the remainder of the game, with never more than three points separating the two squads. Coach Llndqulst used twenty-six men in the two games, eight of them from last year's squad. In addition ad-dition a number of men who have been playing football have now reported re-ported for duty, and one or two others may be in for the winter quarter and try for the team. |
