Cedar City, To Use Lyman Street Numbering System The Lyman system of street numbering, num-bering, which has been adopted in Salt Lake City and Ogden, and highly recommended by the Utah Safety Council was adopted for Cedar City streets some time ago by the Cedar City Council, but official use was held up pending the arrival arriv-al of the street markers from the State Prison. This week those markers mark-ers arrived, and the signs will be installed as soon as possible. The Lyman system was recommended recom-mended to the City Council by the Planning Commission several months ago and was adopted Immediately Im-mediately by the Council, and the city engineer was Instructed to lay out the city according to the Lyman Ly-man system. Cedar City will be the first city in the state to adopt this new system sys-tem for the entire city street system. sys-tem. Salt Lake City and Ogden have adopted the system partially, but Mr. Lyman, the originator of the numbering idea, gives Cedar City the credit for the first Utah city to use the system Intact. The basic difference in the Lyman Ly-man System and the old system now in use Is that all city streets will now be numerical, and street locations loca-tions can be determined immed lately by the measured distance from the center of Main street and Center street which will be 00, 00 street on the city plat. The Inclusion of several avenues on the city plat has been confusing on street numbering. For Instance, 1st North is the 2nd street north, but Is called 1st North. 2nd South is actually the fourth street south, but Is called 2nd South, and this has confused the numbering sys tern accordingly. Check the attached map for the location, and number of your street Most house numbers will not be changed, but several streets will be changed. The Record will publish several articles and answer questions on the new system In the near future. |
