Show 1 Round Schoolhouse Proves Safe for Pioneer Teacher BROO KLINE, VT.-Still standing here Is the only round red school-1. school-1. house In America and therein lies a tale. In 1822, a tall, handsome man who Identified himself as Dr. John Wilson Wil-son appeared in this village and applied ap-plied for a job as schoolteacher. Hired immediately, he soon arranged ar-ranged to have built the round red schoolhouse which, with five windows, win-dows, commanded a view of approaches ap-proaches from all directions. Not until Dr. Wilson died was it learned why he wanted to teach in a schoolhouse which provided such excellent visibility. Through certain physical defects and other clues, Dr. Wilson was identified in death as the notorious Captain Thunderbolt, a criminal who bad escaped from a British prison and sailed for New England. Captain Thunderbolt's accomplice in crime, a .man known as Lightning,, Light-ning,, escaped with him and eventually even-tually was hanged as a murderer in Boston. |
