Show Drowning Victim Honored With Regimental Services Fellow soldiers in the 222nd. Field Artillery paid fitting tribute last Wednesday evening to Elmo O. Taylor, Tay-lor, who was drowned while swimming swim-ming in Morrow Bay near Camp San Luis Obispo, California on Sunday. April 6th. The drowned soldier, a native of Loa, Utah, and enlisted with Cedar Ce-dar City's Battery "F", was honored honor-ed with regimental funeral services. A large wreath of roses represented the casket, the body not having been found to date, Captain Henry E. Petersen and Sergeant Earl Furness paid special tribute to the youth as principal speakers. Musical numbers were rendered by Prentice Afjee, Frank Berryessa, Owen Berryessa, Mack Cook, Theodore W. Jorgensen of the Regimental Band, and Howaid Knight of Battery F. At daybreak on Thursday a small party of Taylor's closest friends tossed the wroath into the ocean at the spot where the youth was drowned. The ocean was dedicated as the soldier's grave, following which "Taps" was played while the burial party stood at attention in final tribute. The funeral services and dedication dedica-tion of the grave were conducted by Harold G. Miller, acting regimental regi-mental chaplain. |
