Copper Cup Utah Figure Skating Club crowns competition winners , Enthusiasm, dedication and hours of hard work paid off for many members of the Utah Figure Skating Club during their annual Copper Cup competition. The competition was held at the Bountiful Boun-tiful Ice Arena July 15-16. Five skating clubs, representing four western states, participated in this year's event. In Junior Ladies, 1988 National Competitor Heather Sniteman placed first in figures, first after her short program and first overall. Jodi Porter placed second in figures, fi-gures, second after her short program prog-ram and second overall. Dorothy Bowers placed third in figures and third in the short program. Karin Palacios placed fourth in the short program. In Novice Ladies, Shannon Smith took first in figures, first in freestyle and first overall; Sara Rosevear took fourth in figures, second in freestyle and second overall. Angie Lawson placed third in figures, third in freestyle and O third overall. Karin Palacios placed fifth in figures; Melissa Grevstad finished sixth in figures, sixth in freestyle and sixth overall. In Intermediate Ladies, Amby Pew took second in figures, first in freestyle and first overall. Shaunna Smith placed third in figures, fourth in freestyle and fourth overall. over-all. Tiffani Taylor placed fourth in figures, fifth in freestyle and fifth overall. In Pre-Intermediate Ladies, Tiffany Tif-fany Conde placed fourth in figures, fi-gures, second in freestyle and third overall. In Juvenile Ladies, Macy Pew placed second in figures, second in freestyle and first overall. Katrina George placed third in figures, fourth in freestyle and fourth overall. In Sub-Juvenile Men, Trent Thueson took second in figures, first in freestyle and first overall. Johnny Mckinnon placed first in figures, second in freestyle and second overall. In Sub-juvenile Ladies group A, Natalie Beaudry took second in figures, fi-gures, second in freestyle and second overall. Danielle Dimeo placed third in figures, third in freestyle and finished third overall. In Sub-juvenile Ladies group B, Jenny Palmer took second in figures, fi-gures, first in freestyle, first overall. over-all. Katrina Cannon placed first in figures, fifth in freestyle, third overall. In Preliminary Ladies, Shayna Lund took first in figures, first in freestyle, first overall. Laura Travis Tra-vis placed second in figures, fourth in freestyle, second overall. Dena Gullino placed fourth in figures, third in freestyle, fourth overall. Jennifer Jones placed sixth in figures, fi-gures, seventh in freestyle and seventh overall. In Pre-preliminary Ladies, Jennifer Jen-nifer Pollom placed first in figures, first in freestyle, first overall. Emily Emi-ly Haws finished second in figures, fourth in freestyle and second overall. Kimberly Taylor placed sixth in figures, second in freestyle, frees-tyle, fourth overall. Lindsay Smith finished third in figures, fifth in freestyle, fifth overall. over-all. Neone Jones took fifth in figures, fi-gures, sixth in freestyle, sixth overall. over-all. Jennifer Archibald placed eighth in figures, eighth in freestyle, frees-tyle, eighth overall. In Pixie Ladies, Kadee Leish man finished first overall. Jenny Rasmussen took second, Monika Paczkowski finished third. In Pre-pixie Ladies, Breckon Hepworth took first, Jenny Good-fellow Good-fellow placed second, Rachelle Buckner placed third and Ashley Jones fourth. In Advanced Freestyle Group A, Katie Payne and Sasha Nalder tied for first. Stephanie Nelsen took third, Christa Fausett fourth, Jenny Jen-ny Bullough fifth, Angela Rawlings sixth. In group B, Katie Adams took first; Sara Brunson second; Courtney Prince, third; Sarah Turner, Tur-ner, third (tie); Annika Anderson, fifth. In Advanced Freestyle Men, Lucas Turner placed first; Jonathan Brunson, second; Cody Cray nor, third. In Adult Ladies Freestyle, Dorothy Bowers placed first; Carol Willis, third. In Dance-Adult open solo, Dorothy Bowers took first. In dance-intermediate solo Amy Garrett Gar-rett placed first and Carol Willis, second. In artistry on ice, Katrina George finished first. Each year a special copper cup award goes to the skater who in the opinion of the judges has been the most inspirational skater of the competition. This year's award was presented to Debbie Zahniser of the Cottonwood Heights club who won the" juvenile freeskating event. The Junior Club award which was given to the sub-juvenile skater ska-ter "who gave their all" was presented pre-sented to Kristina Hunsaker from Anchorage, Alaska. |
