Show Illegal signs will be cited By GARY R. BLODGETT BOUNTIFUL Posting of signs on utility poles or placing signs in parking strips anywhere in Bountiful is in violation of the city ordinance and offenders may be given a legal citation, according to Police Chief Larry D. Higgins. "We are having a continual problem of residents posting for sale, open house, garage sale and other types of signs on utility poles," said Chief Higgins. "This is in violation of the city ordinance and residents could be prose-, cuted." He said that thus far there have not been any citations given if the responsible persons removed the signs immediately. "Officers have given verbal warnings to offenders in the past but citations may be given if the problem continues," he noted. "Political candidates (or their campaign workers) have been serious se-rious offenders of this city ordinance ordi-nance in the past and we hope that it will not be a serious problem during dur-ing the upcoming elections." He emphasized that signs must be placed on privately owned property prop-erty and persons placing the signs must have the permission of the property owners. "Persons placing plac-ing candidate election signs should , be certain that they are acting within with-in the city ordinance with the size and number of signs as well as the placement of signs," the chief said. He noted that for sale and garage gar-age sale signs cannot be legally placed in the city-owned parking strip and the only announcements allowable on utility poles are notices dealing directly with registration reg-istration and election dates and procedures. |
