Show Int'l Cricket tournament scheduled Sept. 17-18th The Utah Cricket Association will stage Salt Lake's second annual International Cricket Tournament Tour-nament at Derk's Field, 1301 S. West Temple, Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18. The tournament will begin at 9:15 a.m. after a bagpipe demonstration demon-stration from the Salt Lake Scots Bagpipe Band. A celebrity cricket match, involving players taken from local television and radio stations, sta-tions, will begin on Saturday evening even-ing at 5 p.m. The tournament is being held to raise funds for the building of a new youth facility for the Utah Boys Ranch. The present Salt Lake facility, facil-ity, where the Utah Boys Ranch conducts its non-profit program of rehabilitating troubled boys, is badly overcrowded due to the increasing in-creasing demand for the Utah Boys Ranch's services. Cricket is a bat and ball game which was destined to become the national sport of the United States before the social upheaval of the Civil War. The game does not employ em-ploy strikes or fouls to achieve outs, the pitcher instead focussing on wooden sticks (the wicket) which the batter aims to protect from the ball. When the batter hits the ball sufficiently far, he may elect to run from his wicket to another wicket at the other end of the pitch (strip of grass from which a pitcher delivers at one end), thus scoring a run. The best way to understand the game is to play it, and the Utah Cricket Association encourages the public to attend the Association's Associa-tion's practice sessions at the Waterford School, 9400 S. 1480 E., Sandy. The Utah Cricket Association Associa-tion and the Utah Boys Ranch encourages en-courages all individuals to attend the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18. Businesses are encouraged to support the tournament by advertising adver-tising in the program which will be issued at Derk's Field. Self-promotional Self-promotional material brought to Brian Bowls pitches while Colin Jackson defends his wicket as the two prepare for Salt Lake City's second annual International Inter-national Cricket Tournament Sept. 17 and 18. the ground during the tournament will be welcomed where advertisements advertise-ments have been purchased.
