Show City halls available for area marriages By GARY R. BLODGETT It's easy enough to get married in any city hall in Davis County, but beyond that the use of city halls for receptions, open houses and parties varies considerably. A survey of city halls throughout the county revealed that there are strict policies against renting city hall facilities facili-ties to anyone but members of the community and then for only certain types of activities. Wedding receptions are the most in demand but the least permitted in most city halls. All city halls are open to marriage ceremonies and informal gatherings, but not all will permit receptions re-ceptions or other formal parties. The most "liberal" city hall for formal for-mal gatherings including wedding receptions is Kaysville's new Municipal Muni-cipal Building. But if you have a weekend wedding planned this summer, sum-mer, chances are not too good. "We're booked up pretty tight into August," said Linda Ross, who handles hand-les the building rental for Kaysville City Hall. "We rent the building for all occasions, but use of the building is restricted to Kaysville residents only." There are three connecting rooms that can be divided or left open for one large reception, she noted. Kitchen facilities are also available. But some other communities in Davis County are very restrictive, permitting per-mitting only governmental agencies or occasional civic groups to use the city hall. Among the most restrictive in their use of city hall rentals to the public arc Bountiful, West Bountiful and Clearfield. Clear-field. These communities restrict "outside use" of their buildings for governmental meetings or on rare occasion to civic groups. "We've had this policy for several years and feel that we can't relax our stand or it will be difficult to draw the line," said a spokesperson for Bountiful. Bounti-ful. "Besides, our city hall design is not conducive to wedding receptions or formal parties." Representatives from West Bountiful Bounti-ful and Clearfield expressed similar concerns in explaining their reasons for not allowing receptions in their citv halls. Farmington City Hall is available for rental for some receptions, open houses and birthday anniversaries. Small weddings are usually conducted in the west conference room. Centerville has limited space for large gatherings but will allow occasional occa-sional small groups to rent the builds ing, and in North Salt Lake the ncJ city hall is available for some types of gatherings but limits use of food to refreshments re-freshments or light catered luncheons. All communities do have similar restrictions res-trictions to any use of their buildings. They include: Rental fees, deposits and cleanup costs must be paid in advance; the building will not be rented on nights that city governmental agencies are conducting meetings; smoking, use of vulgar language, and consumption of alcohol are prohibited inside the building build-ing or on the city hall grounds; and any damage inside or outside the build;ng is the responsibility of the persons renting rent-ing the building. |
