Show Outstanding music graduate A iJ Vivian Harmer, daughter of John and Carolyn Harmer of Bountiful, Boun-tiful, has been named the outstanding outstand-ing Music Graduate in the College of Fine Arts, Brigham Young University. Uni-versity. A former member of the Woods Cross Marching Band, Madrigals and Woods Cross Sterling Scholar finalist in music, Vivian will graduate gradu-ate with high honors from BYU this month, with a major in flute performance. A former soloist with the Utah Symphony in the Salute to Youth concert, and winner of the BYU Concerto competition, Vivian has also soloed and performed with the BYU Philharmonic, wind symphony sym-phony and Chamber Orchestra. She has sung with the University Singers under the direction of Dr. Ron Staheli, for the past three years. A student of Susan Goodfcllow, Vivian has been a flute teacher on the BYU music faculty for the past two years. She has also studied flute in England for two summers, and recently was chosen as the youngest of six students to participate partici-pate in a master class in Boston, conducted by flutist Geoffrey Gilbert. Gil-bert. She is a member of the Utah Flute Association and has taught VIVIAN HARMER privately for the past seven years. She is a former student of Eric Graf, principal flutist with the Utah Symphony. She plans to earn a master's degree in flute. She has been accepted into the master's program at UCLA but has not definitely decided where she will continue her education, next year. The third in a family of ten children, Vivian has always loved music and been involved in musical activities most of her life. |
