A total of 63 candidates had filed by deadline Friday, according to Tess Porter of the Davis County Election Service. Ser-vice. There were so many candidates that convention delegates will determine de-termine the fate of some candidates where three or more nominees from one political party filed for the same post. The list of Republican candidates candi-dates for both the two-year and four-year County Commission seats will have to be narrowed to two each because three have filed for the same office. In the race for four-year commissioner, commis-sioner, incumbent Glen E. Saunders, Saun-ders, Clinton, will be matched against Gayle A. Stevenson, Layton, and Merle D. Hildreth, Layton, in the Republican Party. Edward F. Stoddard, Clearfield, and Ella M. Anderson, Layton, Democrats, also filed for the four-year four-year commission seat. While Golden C. Sill, Layton, will be the lone Democratic candidate candi-date for the two-year commission seat, three Republicans will be seeking the office. They are incumbent incum-bent Harold Tippetts, Farmington; Margaret Brough, Kaysville; and Dub Lawrence, Centerville. No other county courthouse seats are up for grabs this election. State House of Representative seats will be crowded with four candidates each running in Dis tricts 14, 15, 17 and 20. Three will compete in District 16 and two each in Districts 18 and 19. Scott W. Holt, Syracuse, and D.J. Fisher, Clearfield, both Republicans, Re-publicans, will be on the ballot with Reed Newmeyer, Clearfield, American Party; and Bruce G. Parry, Par-ry, Syracuse, Democrat in District 14. Incumbent Henry J. Dickamore, South Weber, and Don E. Bush, Clearfield, will be on the Primary Election ballot representing District Dis-trict 15. Both are Republicans. They will oppose Jim Hurst, Clearfield, Clear-field, Democrat, and Kevin R. Car-don, Car-don, Clearfield, Libertarian. Candidates will run unopposed in their respective, parties in District Dis-trict 16. Competing are incumbent Franklin W. Knowlton, Layton, Republican; JoAnn Preston, Layton, Democrat; and Glen W. Hunt, Layton; Libertarian. Incumbent Walter Bain, Farmington, Farm-ington, will lead three Republicans into the county convention representing repre-senting District 17. Others who filed are Karl G. Hutchinson, Kaysville and Don S. Redd, Farmington, Farm-ington, both GOP; and Jack E. Dis-tel, Dis-tel, Kaysville, Democrat. In Districts 18 and 19, incumbents incum-bents Stanley M. Smedley, Republican; Repub-lican; and Kim R. Burningham, incumbent in-cumbent Republican, will go against Lillian B. Wood, West Bountiful, Democrat, and Loren D. Martin, Republican, respectively. respec-tively. Republicans Nancy Sonntag Lyon and Del Barton Rowe, both of Bountiful, will oppose Steven T. Contrell, Democrat, and Herbert N. Henderson, American Party, in Bountiful's District 20. Republican John P. (Jack) Redd vacated his seat in District 20 to seek the nomination for the Utah Senate seat in District 23. Incumbent Incum-bent Senator Jack Bangerter will not seek re-election after serving three terms. With the pullout of Sen. Bangerter, Banger-ter, five Republicans and three others will make a bid for the senate sen-ate seat. Republicans seeking the lone senate seat, all from Bountiful, are Mr. Redd, Mark Braithwaite, Ernest W. Cox, Otis E. Winn, and Lane Beattie. Others seeking the senate seat are Tim S. Seeley, North Salt Lake, American Party; Nelda Bishop, Bountiful, Democrat; Demo-crat; and Bill Husbands, Farming-ton, Farming-ton, Libertarian. School district candidates will be placed on a non-partisan ballot fo the general election. Nominees' from Precinct One are incumbent Dr. Ray Briscoe, Theodore E.: Kanell, Steven Thorsen, Theo Ita-: lasano and Paul T. McGarry, all of Bountiful; and LuCene C.: Hougaard, North Salt Lake, and Wayne O. Westergard, Woods Cross. Precinct Two will feature Matt Gait, Scott Steorts, Dan R. Eastman East-man and Shauna Nakaya, all of Bountiful. Board Chairman Sheryl L. Allen will not seek re-election. Representing Precinct Three are Dr. Stan Gardner and Edrice Potter Pot-ter of Kaysville; J. David Potter and Lynn J. Summerhays, Farmington; Farm-ington; Dennis B. Knoles and Hyrum W. Smith, Centerville; and Newell J. Law, Fruit Heights. |
