Show Hurricsne j Miss Milda Isom Keporter Mrs. Oscar Demill and son, Wendell, of Rockville and Mrs. John Swartzbough and daughter, Miss Lorraine Gael of Orange. Calif., were guests at the Merrill Hall home on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Sand-berg Sand-berg and daughter, Elaine, have been on a 10-day trip to Salt Lake City. While there they attended a Blake reunion at Mill Creek Canyon. Later they journeyed to Yellowstone Park, returning later to Salt Lake City on their way home, they visited for some time and were accompanied on home by Mr. Sandberg's sister, Miss Josephine Sandberg, who is now-visiting now-visiting with them. The most recent step in carrying carry-ing out the city beautification program was in the construction of a fence and the widening of North Main street, near Knob Hill farm, Mayor Wadsworth's property. pro-perty. Ruth Spendlove, Aleath Dalton, and Barbara Hirschi, employees of Allred's cafe at Springdale, were home for the week-end. Miss Naomi Carling, of Short-Creek, Short-Creek, Ariz, and Bert and Bob Gentry, of Panaca, Nev., were week-end guests at the home of Miss Verlin Walker. Tourist travel through this community com-munity in the past week has increased in-creased immensely and has proved to be a benefit to our merchants. Doctor and Mrs. Mclntire and son ,Jodey, have gone on a brief vacation trip to Ogden. J. M. Williams has returned home after having been away for some time. Misses Stella and Luie Hall have returned home from Provo, where they have spent the summer. Mayor Gene Wadsworth and Chauncey Sandberg were guests at a special banquet given at the Hotel El Esclante at Cedar City on Monday evening in honor of Mr. Jeffreys, president of the Union Pacific. The Misses Ruth Barber, Dorothy Hirschi and Enid and Elaine Bradshaw spent the past week at Provo and Heber. The south ward primary association associa-tion held its home-coming festival on Tuesday evening, August 9. The affair was mainly of a musical type. There was a good attendance to the program and an enjoyable time was reported. Mrs. Nora Terry of Paragoonah is visiting with friends and relatives rela-tives here. Mrs. Eugene Wadsworth entertained enter-tained her bridge club on Thursday Thurs-day evening at the home of Mrs. Harvey Ballard. Twelve members were present, nerresnmerns wcie served. Mrs. Alice LeBaron's "Champion Sewing Club" held a 4-H club party on Friday evening at the home of Miss Lellra Isom. The following members were present Verna Woodbury, Barbara Eager Lora May Roundy, Cleora Le-Baron, Le-Baron, Julia Wilson, Afton Johnson John-son and one guest, Rae Stout. A program was given and refreshments refresh-ments were served. The Hurricane band led the parade at the Legion convention in Cedar City Saturday. The band received many compjiments from the onlookers. The Hurricane and Rockville boy scouts contacted each other in a game of baseball at Hurricane on Tuesday afternoon, our boys emerged victorious with a score of 6-3. The Elberta peaCh season is now beginning with a bang, when the first large shipment was made today. Fruit is quite plentiful in "Utah's Dixieland, Hurricane and LaVerkin," and prospects seem to be good for its sale.- Miss Betty Syphus has returned for some time to visit with relatives rela-tives and friends. The special Book of Mormon class will meet next Sunday at the home of Miss Leah Wood. This year the Hurricane Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce and the American Ameri-can Legion are uniting in an attempt at-tempt to put over one of the best Peach Day celebrations that this locality has ever witnessed. The event is to be held on September 1 and 2. The committees are organized or-ganized and are working out their various programs. The full particulars parti-culars will be published later, but the program in brief will contain fights, dances, band parade, rodeo, races,' ball games, fruit festivals, etc. Miss LaDean Spendlove has returned re-turned from Monroe and Alta Stout from Cedar City, where they have spent some time visiting. |
