Show Baptisms Reach 109 Mark At St. George Temple Baptismal Service Is First Service In Temple Since Closing A Year Ago For Remodeling There were 108 children and one adult baptized at the St. George Temple Sunday afternoon, August 7. This marked the first ordinance work done in the Temple since it was closed for renovation and remodeling re-modeling a little more than one year ago. The service Sunday included a brief meeting at 4 p.m. followed by the ordinance of first baptism in which the 109 applicants from Parowan, Zion Park, and St. George stakes participated. Approximately Ap-proximately 250 adults and children child-ren were present. Pres. Orval Hafen was the speaker at the meeting, giving a brief history of the L.D.S. form of baptism; its purpose as an order, or evidence of accepted membership in the Mormon Mor-mon church, and the obligation of those who thus identify themselves them-selves as church members. The record of baptism j was made as follows: Cedar third I ward of Parowan stake 3; Hurricane Hurri-cane north 3: Hurricane south 9. from Zion Park stake: and from St. George stake were Leeds ward 4, Washington 15. Santa Clara S. St. George east 14. St. George west 21 and St. George south 34. The one adult receiving this ordinance was Mrs. Ernest Mifflin, daughter-in-law of Wm. Mifflin of this city. She was formerly from Michigan, but recently of Idaho and is a local convert to the L.D.S. faith. Interest Shown The Temple officials express' great appreciation for the interest manifest in this preliminary opening open-ing of the Temple and are looking look-ing forward to the official opening September 12. With the new Esty electric organ installed recently, there is left only the hanging of the interior drapes and the Venetian Vene-tian binds, the assembling of some of the seating and the final of-fical of-fical acceptance of the church authorities. Already people are j beginning to come in and write in I to secure rental places and the ! outlook, says Pres. Harold S. Snow, is very promising. j |
