Uintah scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a 54 yard run by Jon Nash, but a holding penalty erased the score. Nash roared up the middle and then broke to the left, but all he gained gain-ed was exercise as the touchdown was taken away. The holding penalty placed the Utes on the Uintah 31 yard line and Nash carried the ball to the 37 yard line. Uintah Uin-tah was forced to punt the ball to Carbon Car-bon and the score after one quarter of action was: Uintah, 0 and Carbon, 0. Uintah stopped Carbon dead in its tracks and regained the ball on a punt by the Dinos. A Carbon Car-bon defender broke up a pass intended intend-ed for Uintah's Mulville in the end zone to make the score 0-0 at the end of the first half. A completed pass placed Carbon at the Uintah 47 yard line early in the third quarter. However, heavy Uintah defensive pressure forced the Carbon quarterback to fall down behind the line of scrimmage at the Carbon 46. Val Mortensen and Kyle White broke up a pass by the Carbon quarterback. Carbon punted the ball away, but a holding penalty on the Utes gave the Dinos a first down on the Ute 40 yard line. Brett Durrant turned in two defensive gems and Uintah's Clark Barker sacked the Carbon quarterback quarter-back at the Dino 47 yard line. Carbon punted the ball away. Uintah's Dee Steinfelt nabbed the ball on a fumble by Carbon, but a penalty gave the ball back to the Dinos. A pass placed Carbon on Uintah's Uin-tah's 31 yard line, but they failed on a fourth down play and Uintah took over the football at their own 35 yard line. Nash carried the ball to the 37 yard line, but they were pushed back to the 35 yard line. However, the Utes didn't become upset as Bartlett connected with Mulville on a 65 yard bomb to present pre-sent a 6-0 lead to Uintah in the third quarter. The extra point kick was no good. The Utes' Brett Durrant pocketed the football due to a Carbon fumble on the Dino 37 yard line late in the third quarter. Nash advanced the ball to the 33 yard line and a pass to Mulville placed Uintah on the 23 yard line. Nash moved the ball to the 19 yard line, but Carbon intercepted a pass at the three yard line to stop a scoring threat by the Utes. Uintah sacked the quarterback on the two yard line and applied heavy pressure on the punt. The Carbon kicker got the ball away, but the Ute punt returners let the ball get by them. The Utes jumped on the ball, almost fumbled it, kept it and took over the ball at the Carbon 45 yard line. The Utes' Steinfelt roared up the middle for a 45 yard touchdown score, but a penalty on the Utes took away the six-pointer and placed Uintah on their own 40 yard line. Nash carried the ball to the 47 yard line and Carbon came close to intercepting a Uintah aerial. Carmickle carried the ball to the Carbon 45, but they were forced to punt the ball. The Utes turned in a number of quarterback sacks and the final score was: Uintah, 6 and Carbon 0. The Utes will battle Morgan on the road, Thursday. When asked to comment on the 6-0 win by the Utes, Uintah sophomore coach, Ed Browning, remarked, "We had three touchdowns called back due to mental mistakes. We played a good physical game. Mulville scored the game winning touchdown for us in the third quarter. He has some good speed, 4.8 in 40 meters and is tall at 6'3". We finally got a pass out to him." Mulville caught the pass and turned turn-ed it into a 65 yard pass-play touchdown. "I received great blocking from the line and a good pass from quarerback Larry Bartlett and I scored. The pass was right over my head and I looked up and it was there and I caught it for a touchdown," said Mulville. Quarterback Bartlett fired the winning win-ning touchdown pass to Mulville. Bartlett commented, "The line did a great job of blocking. I was on a sweep on the right side and I went back. Nash threw a great block and I saw Mulville open out in the flat and I connected. He caught it and scored." The Utes' Brett Durrant and Clark Barker stopped Carbon runners a number of times, but they weren't the only ones as the whole team came through on defense for the Utes. "We got some lucky breaks in the game and some unlucky breaks. Our line did the job," said Durrant. Nash had a touchdown taken away from him in the first half on a penalty. penal-ty.
