Show Historical Society takes trip to Elk Horn Members and guests of the Uintah Historical Society gathered at the Golden Age Center Saturday morning August 27. Disappointed that the guide had cancelled to go to the Cold Springs Mountain area of Browns Park only 12 members attended. The group, with Erland Preece as driver of the van, went to Lapoint. On the way, the group stopped for a close view and picture taking of some unusual rock formations between Vernal Ver-nal and Lapoint. They then drove through the three dells at Tridell They also drove by the Elk horn Ranger station sta-tion and up the Elk Horn Loop. Visiting, riddles and humorous stories were enjoyed along the trip. Going to Chapeta Lake, a pickup was high centered in the middle of the creek. Having a chain and tow rope, the men hooked onto the van and were pulled out. The group, deciding not to get into the same situation, hiked the rest of the way to the lake. It was a very nice sunny day for a picnic, with a light, cool breeze blowing blow-ing off the snowbanks still on the mountain, and with the scenic drive the rest of the way around the loop down to Neola, back to Lapoint and home, everyone enjoyed the day. |
