Show Can recycling center gives 6 month totals Approximately 1,051,200 recyclable aluminum beverage cans have been cashed in by the public during the first six months of 1983 at the aluminum can recycling center operated by C & H Distributing as a community service. The recycling center is located at 1272 East 500 South in Vernal. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, Fri-day, 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. and Saturday, Satur-day, 8 a.m. through noon. Currently, 25 cents is paid for each pound of recyclable aluminum cans that are cashed in at the center. There are about 24 cans to a Dound. "We paid out about $7,880 to individuals in-dividuals and organizations in our area who cashed in those cans with us," explained Flay Bullock, recycling center coordinator. He noted that the number of cans turned in at the center was expected to increase during the summer and early fall, the period when aluminum can recycling is at its heaviest in many parts of the country. C & H Distributing conducts its recycling program in cooperation with Container Recovery Corporation (CKC), the recycling subsidiary of the Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. Working with about 500 Anheuser-Busch Anheuser-Busch distributors across the nation, CKC has grown to become the nation's second largest rccycler of aluminum. "The response to aluminum recycling recycl-ing has been good in our area," said Bullock. "It's an effective way of reducing litter and at the same time pulling money back into the community communi-ty through the cash payments to recycli'ts." |
