Show USU EDGES PACIFIC Dale Money kicked a 25 yard field goal with seven seconds left to give Utah State University a dramatic 17 to 14 victory over the University of Pacific Saturday. Money also booted two extra point kicks after the Aggies rallied for two touchdowns in the third quarter. Utah State, now 2-0 in the PCAA and 3-3 overall, was badly outplayed in the first half and saw the Tigers claim a 14-0 lead. But the momentum changed hands in the third quarter when Fred Fernandes returned a punt 78 yards for USU's first touchdown. Aggie Coach Bruce Snyder then made a change at quarterback as he replaced Chico Canales with Doug Samuels. Putting together their most impressive march of the game, the Utah State Aggies began at their 44 after a punt and with Samuels at quarterback, quar-terback, took only 64 seconds to go the distance for the tying touchdown. Maurice Turner darted 28 yards and into the end zone for the touchdown. A 20 yard pass from Samuels to Eric Mc-Pherson Mc-Pherson was the big play of the drive. USU took over the football with 2:52 remaining in the game. Paul Jones carried the ball from the Pacific 43 to the 28 on a reverse. An offside penalty was called on the Aggies and Samuels was sacked. Turner picked up seven yards on a run and Samuels darted 11 more yards. The quarterback keeper put the Aggies on the 34 and a face mask penalty advanced USU to the 12. Turner carried the ball to the eight and Money hit the jackpot with a successful field goal, which gave USU a 17-14 win. |
