Show c-q . ;r J HAL DUKE receives the Chamber's Outstanding Outstan-ding Service Award from Kenneth Sowards, left. Hal Duke receives Chamber service honor Harold (Hal) Duke was presented the Vernal Area Chamber's Outstanding Public Service . Award during the Charnbernew jnember meeting last Tuesday. In his presentation of the award to Mr. Duke, Kenneth Sowards, chamber member, summarized Duke's service to the community. Mr. Duke was a member of the Jaycees from 1933 to 1952 in Cedar City and Vernal during which he held several chairmanships and offices as well as chaired the committee to raise funds for the old hospital. Charter member of the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce, he has served as chairman of the Retail Merchants and Transportation Tran-sportation committees. He also served on the Board of Directors for three terms and was the Chamber's president in 1958-59. He was the Highway 40 Association Board member for several years and president of Dinosaurland Advertising, Inc. for the past 10 years. He has been Carolyn Duke, right, supports her husband in receiving the award. the Dinosaurland Travel Board (regional) president since it was organized in 1974. He has been a member of the Rotary Club since 1963 being a past vice president and serving on its board for three years. He is a charter member of the Dinaland Country Club and the Dinah-Mites. Duke's interests are golf, bird hunting, hun-ting, travel, barbershop quartets, dancing and skiing. He is married to Carolyn Simmons and they have a daughter Judy. He graduated from Uintah High School and attended the University of Utah and Utah State University. He worked for J.C. Penney Company from 1933 to 1938 and Ashton Brothers Company from 1939 to 1980 having advanced to vice president. Mr. Duke and his wife have owned and operated the Antlers Motel for the past 20 years. In other business, the Chamber introduced in-troduced new members from its recent membership drive. Over 80 new members have been added to the Chamber from the drive. |
