Show MDA superdance raises record $6400 Twenty-eight participants danced 20 hours consecutively last Friday and Saturday to raise a record-breaking $6,400 during the Muscular Dystrophy Association's (MDA) Superdance. The top six money raisers who will be invited to appear on the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon in Salt Lake City, are Zane Gray, first; Collett Sweatfield and Scott Hymas tied for second and third; Becky Warnock, fourth; Lori Harrison, fifth; and John Kay, sixth. According to Keith and Lori Ross, dance organizers, the amount of money raised was the largest ever in the nation for a first dance in the area. It was also the largest amount raised during a Superdance in Utah this year. Dancers raised the money by gaining pledges for dancing the 20 hours. Dancers were allowed a ten minute break every 60 minutes and three half-hour half-hour breaks. It was the first time the dancers were not given a four-hour sleep break. The organizers nor the dancers were informed about the break until near the finish of the dance, said Lori Ross. "A lot of credit needs to be given to Lori and Keith," said Steve Schmidt, KVEL, "because of their efforts the event went smoothly," KVEL provided hourly on-the-air updates of the dance. Other participants in the dance were Toni Grammer, Bob Lee, Monica Maestas, Joe Lance, Sherry Couture, Sam Kunsman, Michelle Mott, Don Williams, Doris Merrell, Rosalee Nuttall, Kelly Liebhardt, Clint Jackson, Tina Nelson, Pat Wisener, Lisa Partridge, Par-tridge, Ricky Allred. Mark Mott, Marianne Kay, Donny Sawyer, DuJuana Horrocks, Darlene Hunsaker and Boyd Sorensen. The dansers raised $3,400 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and a local oil field worker who dropped in several times, matched the funds raised by the dancers. The donator requested to remain anonymous. Twenty-eight Vernal businesses donated items to the dance, and the Elks provided their lodge for the dance. Wally Goddard and the Star Fighter Band from Logan provided the music. The Ladies of Elks donated a meal. |
