Show DOE awards oil shale transportation study grant The Department of Energy awarded a $75,000 grant to the Utah Department of Transportation last week to study transportation policy in connection with development of the state oil shale and tar sands deposits. The study will include all modes of transportation in the oil shale-tar sands area to determine what will be required to handle the industry's production. In a separate announcement, the Tosco Corp. said it is still strongly committed to immediate development of Sand Wash oil shale property in northeastern Utah. The DOE said the Tosco proposal was the highest rated on a technical basis. The average size of a U.S. farm increased in-creased from 427 acres in 1975 to 450 acres in 1979. The Agriculture Department Depart-ment expects another three acres will be added to the average in 1980. i |
