The turbidity (a measurement of particulate matter in water) of Vernal City was measured at 11 during the month of June. The EPA requires water systems to have a turbidity measurement of less than five. McConkie Ranch. Waters were said to be the highest in 16 years on the Dry Fork. Maeser's turbidity was measured at 8.4, Naples at 9.1 and Davis at 13. Turbidity in Vernal City water system is an annual occurrance during the flooding period of Ashley Springs. Long-time residents have grown accustomed ac-customed to the muddy water once a year, but to visitors the water may appear ap-pear bad. The City is presently conducting a water supply study which will recommend solutions to the turbidity problem and other improvements to the water system to better meet health standards. The council has given the go-ahead for immediate action on drilling wells near Ashley Spring before their rights to the wells expire June 30. Councilman Karl Migliori told the council, June 18, that he has inspected the well sites with engineers, and they may prove to be a feasible water supplement, but progress toward drilling the wells must begin by June 30 or the city will have to reapply for the well rights. Also at the meeting last week, Mayor Sam Snyder reported th intention of tne Central Utah Water Conservancy District (UWCD) to provide $25,000 to study the possibility of financing a water treatment plant tor the Vernal water system.
