Uirrfcih Basin Eodeo Club garraers i?hSrdl sae crown The Uintah Basin High School Rodeo Club captured the state title in the Utah State Rodeo Finals in Heber City last week. This is the Uintah Basin team's third state rodeo championship in the past four years. Kristy McNeill won her third all-around all-around cowgirl crown in a row. She placed first in the cow cutting with a score of 416 and nabbed first place in the breakaway roping event at 14.84. She placed second in goat tying at 33.31. - Cory McNeill captured first place in the calf roping with a score of 63.90 on three calves. McNeill placed third in the cow cutting at 405. Josh Reynolds, Vernal and Jim Bob Eardley, Price, pocketed second place in the team roping at 73.08. Randlett's Ron Stanley placed fourth in the bull riding event with a score of 106 on two bulls. Derrin Gardiner, Vernal and Debbie Morrison, Tremonton, nabbed first place in the first go in the team roping event at 13.91. Darlene Frost, Randlett, placed third in the first go in the pole bending and Ron Nebeker and Karl Bastian, Roosevelt, nabbed tnird plaee in the first go in the team roping event v Kristy McNeill, goat tying, cow cutting, breakaway roping; Cory McNeill, cow cutting, calf roping; Josh Reynolds, team roping and Ron Stanley, bull riding, have qualified for the National High School Rodeo Finals in Yakima, Washington, July 28-August 3. The Uintah Basin High School rodeo team was one of the smallest clubs to go to the state meet. The local team has nine members and eight earned points r. " ' ' J , . - . : - .... ' .' Lori pocketed first " place in the barrel race in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo , Finals. at the state meet. "The Ogden Spikers have 150 members and they won the state crown last year, and we got it back this year. This is our third state crown in four vears." remarked Pat McNeill. Josh Reynolds pocketed fifth place in the cow cutting and Reynolds and Jim Bob Eardley of Price had a time of 12.45 in one of the gos in the team roping event. It was the fastest time in the team roping contest. Kristy McNeill suffered a number of injuries, but she overcame them to nab the all-around title, two first places and one second. The night before the group was going to leave for the state meet Kristy's horse ran over her. She received receiv-ed a number of bruises and she took a different horse to the state meet. While she was taking part in an event on Thursday her rope went through her hands and burned her finger. Kristy wasn't the only person who suffered injuries in-juries as a fence fell on her father, Leland McNeill, but he recovered. 'Benny Allred had a spur set in his cast so that he could compete in bronc and bull riding. He rode his bronc and his bull, Allred got off his bull and was walking away. The bull got away from the clown and ran over Allred, who wasn't able to get out of the way and he broke his collarbone. Allred had a mark of 68 in the bareback bronc contest and had a score of 62 in the bull riding event. He was in first place on June 18 in both events before he was injured. Allred is a member of the Emery County Rodeo Club which is near Price. |
