Show Pow-Wow set for July 2-5 Over $6,500 in cash prizes will be awarded to winners of the dance contests during the 12th annual Northern Nor-thern Ute Pow-Wow at Ft. Duchesne, July 2-5. The annual celebration will start with open dancing on July 2 and the contests will get underway on July 3 and run through July 5. The host drum for this year's event will be the Iron Wood Singers from Rosebud, South Dakota. The first place winners in the .men's fancy and traditional dance competitions com-petitions will receive $1,000. First prize for the women's fancy shawl is $500 and $600 will be given to the winner of the women's traditional dance. The first place drum group will get $500. Ray Spnngwater is heading this year's pow wow. He will be assisted by Joe Pinnccoose, co-chairman; Sndine Chimburas, secretary; Angelita Ambon, treasurer and Harold Cuthair, Ron Cuch, arena directors. A queen contest will be held, which will be open to young women from different tribes. A parade is set for July 5. Other events are: a stick game tournament, an Indian Market Day, a bowling tournament, road races, softball tournament and rodeo. |
