May 23. on the newly prepared drag strip eight miles south of Moab. The races are being sponsored by Grand Valley Racing Association. Drag Races Scheduled This Week Grand Valley Racing Association Associ-ation will be sponsoring its first National Hot Rod Associations Associa-tions Sanctioned Drag Races Sunday, May 23, eight miles south of Moab. Time trials and gates open at 9 a.m. and the elimination start at 1 p.m. The Racing Association has improved the drag strip this past winter with the addition of bleechers to seat approximately approxi-mately 300, right on the starting line, but in a completely safe location. Also the entire strip has been refinished, and a much improved im-proved racers pit area has been cleared, graveled and compacted. The type of cars to be seen are super stockers which are the type used for every day transportation, but with required re-quired safety equipment and minor modifications. ' Other cars running are modified production, gas. and altereds, which provide some excitement with speeds in the neighborhood of 150 m.p.h. and times in the 9 second area through the ' mile. There will also be conses-sions conses-sions available for those who don'ti bring there own. A quick estimate indicates (hat 10-15 local drivers will be participating in the event. Admission is S2 a person. Children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by an adult. |
