Show 'Cream-Puff Methods In War on Crime Hit PITTSBURGH, Nov. 9 UP) J. Edgar Hoover, director of the federal bureau of investigation, replied to critics of his antiparole stand today with the assertion he would rather be termed a member mem-ber of the so called "machine gun school of criminology" than the "cream puff school." Speaking to the American Ho-. Ho-. tel Association of the United States and Canada, Hoover referred re-ferred to "numerous persons who, either through inability properly to assimilate the true crime picture, pic-ture, or through the deliberate and reprehensible dissemination of misinformation about the status of crime, are daily encouraging the depredations of over 4,300.000 thieves, murderers and rapists-crime's rapists-crime's standing army in America. Amer-ica. "... These self-appointed am-bassadors am-bassadors of the open cell block tell us that the picture of crime ... is a false one. They say that crime is on the decrease; that parole pa-role is a success . . Asserting-statistics refute these views. Hoover said he favored the principle of parole, but condemned "the maladministration of the parole pa-role systems." |
