Utah silver-lead mine operators Tuesday received an Informal vote of thanks from the chamber of commerce mining committee, through Gus P. Backman, executive secretary, for putting into effect a 29-eant dally wage Increase for employes. "By this ware Increase our leading lead-ing silver-lead mine operators hsve indicated a praiseworthy desire to distribute returning prosperity to the mining Industry," aald Mr. Backman. "Economic wellbelng of all Utah Is closely allied with the mining Industry, and any payroll Increase must have beneficial effect on many lines of baslnees." The notice of wage increase posted post-ed Monday by six-mining concerns became effective Tuesday. Mining committee members also approved the movement to have the proposed silver depository, being considered by the U. 8. treasury department, located In this vicinity. Mr. Backman aald. Principal arguments In favor of the Salt Lake City locality were that this la 'the center of the silver producing area and It la near enough to the west coast to be available for silver transactions with the orient and yet sufficiently inlsnd to be protected from Invasion.
