Show LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN Civic, government and church organizations, women's clubs and other groups interested in home beautification and civic improvement improve-ment have adopted a county landscape land-scape improvement program. The program is in harmony with a program launched by a Central State committee and Governor Blood's 1947 World's Fair committee. com-mittee. As ninny tourists will be expected in the state to help celebrate cele-brate Utah's centennial, a concerted con-certed effort is being made to beautify our highways and homes in preparation for the event. Representatives of the various organizations who met Monday, March 20, at the county courthouse, court-house, adopted a program in harmony har-mony with the major aims of the state committee. Mrs. Edward Clyde and Mrs. E. T. Crandall, were present from Springvilie. The long-time goals are: (1) To remove all unsightly views from our state highways, county highways high-ways and city strets old, unused buildings and barns, automobile junk collections, dead trees, weeds, fallen down fences, farm machinery; machin-ery; by repair, repticeincnt,. -removal or screen. (2) To eliminate unsightly surroundings in communities. commu-nities. (3) To plant lawns, shrubs, vines and trees to improve landscapes. land-scapes. (4) To paint all buildings. A goal to receive additional emphasis em-phasis in the present spring campaign cam-paign is the removal or repair of all unsightly barns and fences in Utah county, and to clean up and organize barnyards so that machinery ma-chinery and equipment is not unsightly. un-sightly. The program and its organization organiza-tion was recommended by a central county committee. This committee commit-tee was appointed to work out such details at a similar previous previ-ous county-wide meeting held on March 13. George Smeath of the B. Y. U. Landscape department was elected chairman. Other members mem-bers of the central committee are: Mrs. Alex Hedquist, Mrs. Harvey King, Mrs. H. Grant Ivins, Frank J. Earl, J. Vaur Waters and Owen Ash. The local chairmen are to select assistants, call a meeting of representatives rep-resentatives of the various civic and church groups and with them decide on a co-ordinated plan of action for their community including includ-ing the sponsoring of a local pam-paign, pam-paign, dates of which should be set before May 6. They are to sponsor local contests in clean-up activity and home beautification and carry on an effective publicity public-ity and educational program. It was the recommendation of the Central committee that the local communities be divided into districts dis-tricts or blocks and captains appointed ap-pointed over them responsible for the necessary campaign activity in that section. |
